RBG Career

After I graduated from law school it was very hard for me to get a job as a lawyer. Most people thought I couldn't do the job because I was a woman. But I knew my mom would want me to keep trying and keep chasing my dreams. I got a job as a professor at Rutgers Law school in 1963. At the time there were only 20 other women in the USA with this kind of job. But I was paid less than the men who worked with me because that is how women were treated back then. I knew that I had to work hard to prove myself and to fight for women's rights. After working at Rutgers for about 9 years I became a lawyer at the ACLU where I continued to fight for women's rights. It was hard but I never gave up! My biggest dream came true when I  became a  federal court judge in Washington DC.  My hard work fighting for women’s rights finally paid off and I was able to give my opinion on the law.  This was a wonderful time in my life and I feel like I made a difference in many people's lives. In the 1990’s Bill Clinton was the President and I replaced Byron White on the U.S Supreme Court. I became the second woman to ever have that job.
